The SPM team represents over 100 years of know-how and successful delivery in all aspects of the construction industry. It’s a highly experienced, talented and professional unit with a balanced blend of construction, property development and operational business management capabilities.
Huw Evans - Chairman
Huw co-founded and led as CEO, Marlborough Stirling plc, a software product and outsourced services company, which was floated on the main LSE in 2001 with a valuation of approximately £250m. Prior to flotation, Marlborough Stirling was awarded the PWC “Business of the Year” Award (South West). Huw was subsequently invited to become a member of the competition’s judging panel. As Chairman of Llanelli Scarlets RFC (from 1998-2011), he led the drive to develop a new (£32m value) stadium for the club. This award winning stadium, completed at the end of 2008 is regarded as one of the finest rugby facilities in Europe. With over twenty years’ experience of residential and commercial property development, Huw now devotes all his time and energies to SPM.
Mike Carr - Managing Director
A construction and site management career professional, Mike has successfully delivered over 160 sites and 5000 properties over a career spanning more than three decades. Mike held executive roles at both Westbury Homes and Redrow. Whilst with Westbury, Mike was part of the team which pioneered the innovative Space 4 modular build construction approach. Mike also project managed the prestigious Parc Y Scarlets stadium development for the Scarlets.
Jim Claughan - Company Secretary
Jim is a highly knowledgeable business manager with more than thirty years’ experience (primarily in the financial services sector) of directing and delivering business change projects, many of them featuring the application of technology as the principal agent of change. Jim held senior positions with Hodge Group, Bank of Wales Group (owned by Bank of Scotland) and Marlborough Stirling plc. Now semi-retired, Jim took on the role of Company Secretary of SPM in 2010.
Mike Bishop - Company Accountant
A chartered accountant with six years in public practice with KPMG and Ernst & Young, Mike spent ten years with GEAC Computer Corporation in Toronto as CFO and Senior Vice- President. Returning to the UK in 1988, Mike joined the 3i Group Non-Executive Director Programme and now acts as part-time Finance Director for a number of SME’s.
Adam Carr - Construction Director
Adam has twenty five years of experience in the construction industry. A qualified carpenter, for ten years he ran his own highly successful carpentry business, which was a preferred supplier to Westbury Homes, Persimmon and Charles Church. Adam joined SPM from Barratt Homes, where he held the position of Site Manager.
Karen Laughland - Office Administrator
Karen provides excellent administrative support to the entire team, keeps everyone organised and the office running smoothly.
